One of the true joys of using oil paint is that you can add bright, happy strokes of lighter colors on top of your darks. This is especially nice when trying to paint a field of flowers (difficult to do with watercolors).
You can also get great texture by applying the paint thickly with a brush or palette knife as seen in the trees on SPRING COLORS
