SPRING HARMONY & Crumpled Tissue

SPRING HARMONY
Watercolor - 11x14

When I painted Spring Harmony I began by wetting 140 lb watercolor paper, placing crumpled tissue paper on top and then sprinting the tissue with water. I then started painting bold color on top of the wet tissue where I wanted to the different flowers in the bouquet, being careful to leave white areas for the daisies.

When the tissue was dry, I removed it and continued painting and defining the flowers, leaves, vase and background, using a lot of negative painting. this method creates fun and interesting texture in the painting that you can'g get any other way.
