A vignette in a painting is where one or more edges or borders of the composition are left unfinished. For Country Day I wet the foreground and applied loose shapes of green watercolor, letting the paint run randomly down to the bottom edge to the paper. This effect leaves areas of pure white paper and creates an interesting design for the foreground.
