HIBISCUS PEACH & Summertime Play!

HIBISCUS PEACH
Watercolor on tissue - 11x14

I love summertime! It is my favorite season with long days, lots of sunshine and time to play. As artists we get to play and experiment with our paints all year but summer gives us a time to sit back and take a break from the serious study of art concepts.

Just like we used to get a break from school we can now give ourselves permission to try something different creatively, take a new direction, try a new medium, use bold color or paint outdoors. It's okay if everything doesn't work out perfectly because the goal is to have fun.

In the name of 'playing' I first glued crumpled tissue paper to 140 lb watercolor paper and then sprayed it with water before I started applying paint. The watercolor settles into the cracks and crevices of the paper to create fun and interesting texture for a 'batik look' to the painting. Is it time for you to play this summer?
