I love color - especially the bold, saturated kind. And contrast? The more, the better! Both light me up and make me feel alive. But too much saturation and your painting is yelling at you. Not enough, and it’s taking a nap. I want a balance, loud vs. quiet, saturated vs. subtle, chaos vs. calm.
Sometimes I get carried away with too much color and have to pull back and mute some areas. Too much contrast and I need to lighten up some dark areas. There is always a push and pull dance when you paint and the more you do it, the easier it is to follow.
