SPRING DAY
Watercolor - 8x10
Quite a few artists love to submit their work to juried art shows. It is their dream to get accepted and it helps to push them to improve their work. It can be a fun experience and of course very exciting if you win an award.
But, you also have to be careful about putting too much emphasis on getting in to art shows. Yes, it feels great to have a juror accept your painting in to a show but that same painting could very well be rejected from a different juror for another show. It is all very subjective and often depends on that particular juror's own style and taste in art and how many other paintings of a similar subject have been submitted.
Sometimes, it is best to be your own juror. Learn to self-critique your own work and take stock of how you have progressed creatively over time. Applaud yourself for areas of improvement, creative risks that you have taken and the self discipline you have to keep showing up in the studio each day.
