SPRING BEAUTY
Watercolor on rice paper - 10x18 in
I painted Spring Beauty on Masa rice paper instead of the traditional 140 lb cotton watercolor paper that I normally use. I first wet the paper and then crumpled it up in a ball which creates the texture for the paint to settle in to. While it was still wet I smoothed it out and began applying color to suggest flowers and leaves. I used negative painting to further define the shapes and add background to the overall composition.
The final piece has a delicate, batik-like look to it!
