In a perfect world every painter would also have good drawing skills. It is something we all strive for and results in stronger paintings. A solid understanding of perspective and proportion helps. Having a trained eye is important but it is a skill that takes time and practice to hone.
But, it is also important to experience the joy of creating and the happiness of moving paint around. It is ok to learn how to paint and draw at the same time. Allow yourself to play, experiment and explore as an artist. Perfection is not the goal. The act of creating art is!
