SOUTHERN BEAUTY
Watercolor - 11x14
Living in the south provides us with plenty of beautiful flowers, wonderful food, friendly people and gracious hospitality. One of my favorite southern flowers are magnolias and the beautiful trees that they grow in. I love to paint them with their creamy white petals and they make wonderful decorations for the home as a centerpiece or on the mantle along with some greenery.
The challenge when painting anything white in watercolor is that you have to leave areas of the paper untouched and then add soft shades of color to create the shadows. I used a soft blue and a touch of yellow ochre in the magnolia petals and reflected those colors in to the leaves and background.
