Fun Friday - Sidewalk Chalk Art Show

Over the weekend I spent a wonderful day with a friend at a Sidewalk Chalk Art Show in downtown Knoxville, TN.

It was sponsored by the Dogwood Arts Council and they set it up in the Jackson Square which is a large open area surrounded by cute shops and cafes.

Each artist was given a 5x5 foot area of sidewalk and boxes of colorful pastels to create their art.

There was a wide variety of participants from families with children, groups of teenagers and artists who worked alone whether they were young or old.

The artwork was amazing and ran the gamut from large, simple, colorful shapes to very detailed and complicated subjects.

This beautiful portrait won Best of Show and you can see why! The detail, shading and use of a limited color palette was breathtaking. It was SO much fun to spend the day watching all of these talented and artistic people creating such wonderful pieces of art with just chalk and concrete.
