HOLLY AND PEARS

Right before the Christmas season we tackled painting holly in my weekly classes. I started this as a demo for my students and finally got around to finishing it last week. This is a more traditional approach to painting in watercolor than I normally use but I did start with wet paper and use a sponge to add color to the background. I tried to use a variety of greens and blues in the holly leaves with a touch of burnt sienna here and there to warm them up. I love the bright red berries and the ribbon weaving in and out of the pears - a very belated Merry Christmas!
