BOUQUET OF COLOR & The Magic of Tissue Paper

BOUQUET OF COLOR
Watercolor - 11x14

I began this painting but wetting 140lb watercolor paper and then placing tissue paper on top. I then used a a spray bottle to wet the tissue and began to apply strong colors for the flowers and leaves, letting the paint seap through the tissue.

When the paint and papers were dry I removed the tissue and saw that it had created beautiful texture on the white paper, creating a mosaic type of feel. I then used negative painting to define the flowers, petals, leaves and vase to complete the composition..

This is a fun way to loosen your painting style if you feel like you are too tight and too focused on details.
