More is Not Always Better & MAGNOLIA BLUE

MAGNOLIA BLUE
Watercolor - 11x14

We all do it. We get to that point in our painting where we know we are almost finished but we tell ourselves that it needs just 'one more thing.' One more pop of color. One more blade of grass. And then, before you know it, the painting is overworked. Too many blades of grass and pops of color and nothing is special anymore.

We've all heard the advice that Less Is More. Leave something to the viewer's imagination. Don't over work it. Easier said than done, right? Sometimes we need to just put the brush down, step away from the painting and give it some time to breathe. Come back later and look at it with a fresh eye and then decide if it really does need 'just one more thing!'
