Art Therapy is defined as 'a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person's physical, mental and emotional well-being.' 

When we express ourselves artistically, the creative process can help to develop and manage our behaviors and feelings, reduce stress and improve our self esteem. I know that in my own life, art has been a source of great joy and comfort during times of stress. Thinking about art, looking at art, researching creative methods and of course creating art - all help us to access our right brain which is more visual and helps to take us away from the stress of everyday life.

The next time you are feeling down or restless or worried, try doing something artistic and see if it helps to lift you out of the doldrums so that you are free to experience more happiness.
