OLD WAGON

Ask any of my students and they will tell you that my favorite way to paint with watercolor is to 'negative paint'. I began this painting by wetting the paper and applying juicy background colors of yellow ochre, Antwerp blue and some mauve in random order. When everything was dry, I came in with dark values to negative paint the wagon, wheel and boards on the shed using the colors already in the under painting for a unified look to the composition.
