The Creative Challenge this week was to be more spontaneous with your artwork. For this painting I covered an old watercolor that I did not like with a couple coats of white gesso. When it was dry I quickly started painting - using bright, bold colors around the white flowers. The gesso keeps the paint from soaking into the paper and creates a slick surface that allows the paint to be lifted off at any time - a good thing if you make a mistake - a bad thing if you are trying to layer colors. Trying something a little bit different allowed me to be freer and more spontaneous with my painting - what about you?
