SUNRISE TULIPS
Watercolor Batik - 12x18
Many years ago I took a wonderful workshop in South Carolina where I learned the technique of painting watercolor batiks. I have since tweaked it a bit to make it my own style with brighter colors, bolder designs, more spatters and a looser style but the basics are the same.
I use a fibrous rice paper, dragon my design with black ink, melt the wax and begin applying color. The last step is to iron off all of the wax and it is always a wonderful surprise to see the final piece full of color and texture.
