PINK BLOOMS and Rice Paper

PINK BLOOMS
Watercolor on rice paper - 11x15

I painted these large, pink flowers on rice paper to create a batik-like effect. The rice paper is dipped in water, crumpled up and then smoothed out so that it can be glued to 140 lb watercolor paper. While the paper was still wet, I began painting in the large areas of color for the flowers, leaves and background to create a soft focus composition. As the paper began to dry, I continued to define the shapes using negative painting.
