Creative Monday Challenge - Week 6

PEACHY KEEN
Watercolor - 11x15

The Creative Monday Challenge for this week is to use a pair of complementary colors in your painting of any subject. Complementary colors are directly opposite of each other on the color wheel and when placed next to each other they will shine but when mixed together they will make a gray or mud if you are not careful

We usually think of the traditional pairs - red/green, orange/blue and yellow/purple but you can shift slightly on the color wheel and use red purple and yellow green, blue green and orange red, and so forth.

This batik predominantly uses the complements yellow and purple but also has a hint of yellow orange and blue purple.

The blue background complements the orange pumpkins and I also used shades of yellow and burnt sienna to make the painting predominantly warm.

Red apples are complemented by the green leaves and the hint of yellow plays off of the purple in the background.
