HOLLYHOCKS and Out Houses

HOLLYHOCKS
Watercolor Batik on rice paper - 12x19

For eight years in Colorado Springs I was the coordinator for the Alzheimer's Memories in the Making Art Program for people with dementia. Whenever I see hollyhocks I am reminded of the story one of the artists told about her childhood. She said that they always planted hollyhocks near the outhouse so that the ladies could politely ask "where are your hollyhocks" when they needed to head outside - too cute!
