Pouring Watercolor Paint and A Barn

AUTUMN DAY
Watercolor - 14x20

I began this painting by pouring the primary colors on to wet paper, allowing them to mix and create soft, glowing color. I selected a red, blue and yellow watercolor and squirted paint directly from the tube to be mixed with some water in a small cup. The process of pouring the paint on to the paper instead of using a brush keeps the paper fresh and smooth so that the paints glide on cleanly. After the paint dried I used a brush to add definition to the trees, barn and foreground.
