Five Ways to Shake Up Your Watercolors - #2 Paint Large

IRIS DANCE
Watercolor 11x15

Painting one large subject - a flower, a sea shell, a leaf - is another great way to shake things up creatively. It allows you artistic freedom to play with shapes and shadows within the subject and around it. I also always encourage my students to paint with the largest brush possible - it keeps them loose, holds more paint and stops them from getting too caught up in the details!
