Colorful VISIONS OF VENICE by Martha Kisling

VISIONS OF VENICE
Watercolor 14x20

I knew I wanted to paint a scene of Venice with all of its wonderful Italian architecture, canals and boats but I wanted it to be a colorful, loose view of the wonderful city. I began this painting with bright colors on wet paper, using salt, spatters and plastic wrap  to create texture. When it dried I stamped on random color with bubble wrap and cardboard and then began pulling out the shapes of the buildings with negative painting. Since I did not start with a drawing I was free to let the painting and shapes evolve, not always an easy process but always a fun and creative experience!
