CACTUS BEAUTY by Colorado Artist Martha Kisling

CACTUS BEAUTY
Watercolor 11x15

A few weeks ago the topic for my weekly classes was cactus and their blooms. I masked out a few of the needles and then wet the whole paper, painting quickly to place the initial colors for the cactus, flowers and a hint of sky. While the paint was still wet I used a sponge and salt for added texture. When everything was dry I used negative paitning to define the cactus and the flowr petals. Amamzing that such pretty flowers can grow on such a hard, prickly plant!
