Southern Magnolia

SOUTHERN MAGNOLIA
Watercolor 8x10

The assignment for my weekly classes was to paint white flowers so I chose to demo a beautiful, southern magnolia. The challenge in watercolor is that we do not use white paint and must try to allow the white of the paper to shine thru. Many soft colors can be used to add form and shadow to the petals - yellow ochre, manganese and a hint of opera did the job!
