A Silver Queen is Honored

This happy lady is one of the artists in the Alzheimer's Memories in the Making art program at a Care Community in Colorado Springs. When I visited last week I found out that they had taken her down to the State Fair in Pueblo to participate in the Silver Queen Pageant - an event that has been going on for 37 years! All contestants had to exhibit a talent and hers was her art. In this photo she is holding up one of her paintings in progress.

Here she is with her trophy. She told me with a smile that she thought they gave all the ladies one but they also got to enjoy a delicious lunch and she had a wonderful day. The whole story really touched my heart - what a lovely way to celebrate these Silver Queens!

  1. Hi Martha, I'm glad I saw this story. Alzheimer's disease is long on suffering and short on mercy. It's good to see that art helps the spirit!

  2. This is a wonderful post, Martha. I was touched by this story, glad you shared it. Wish you a happy sunday

  3. Hi Martha, what a sweet lady and her art is amazing thank you for sharing with all of us...
