SEAGULL SKY - Creative Challenge - White Water

SEAGULL SKY
Watercolor - 11x14

The Creative Challenge this week was to paint 'white water'. SEAGULL SKY began with wet paper for the sky where I applied shades of mauve, turquoise and ultra marine blue. I left white paper above the rocks for the 'white water' and then applied salt to the wet paint to create texture for the water spray. The rocks were painted with burnt sienna and ultramarine blue on dry paper and then I used a credit card to scrape in the shapes of the rocks. For the ocean water I applied clean water to the paper in random horizontal strokes and the painted in shades of blue, leaving white.
