A HINT OF ROSE - Watercolor

This painting started out as a demo for a class on ' lifting out.' I wet the paper, front and back, and painted the background colors placing more yellow ochre where I wanted the rose. While everything was still wet I used a dry brush and started lifting out the lighter areas to create and refine the shape of the rose. I also used very concentrated color to paint around the flower. When everything was dry I added the leaves and sharpened up areas on the rose. This method of painting creates a very soft glow to the painting.
