YELLOW ROSE - Watercolor - SOLD

Roses are fun to paint but they can be challenging because they are such a perfect flower. For this painting I started out wet on wet (my favorite way) applying the yellow and purple colors. Since they are primary colors you have to be careful to not let them mix and turn to mud. When it was dry I started painting the shadows around the petals (negative painting), added the leaves (purple, not green) and used more purple in the background to shape the overall rose. I love the soft glow the wet paint created in the background.
