Stained Glass Iris

IRIS POTPOURRI

Iris Potpourri was a demo for my weekly watercolor class. First I used a thin liner brush to paint masking fluid around the main iris and leaf shapes and spattered some around the whole paper. Then I did what I call 'psuedo pouring' where I wet the whole paper and using a mop brush dripped someyellow, red and blue paint and let them mix and mingle to create soft jewel colors. When everything was dry I painted in more darks, removed the masking and did a little negative painting in the background. The final effect is rather like a stained glass window and all the students had great success with this technique!
